What causes play in the standard holes, how the LT-Extenderbolt fills it, and what to pay attention to during installation.
Anyone who drives an Aebi transporter knows the moment: The axle knocks, the vehicle drives uneasily, and the MFK is just around the corner. The cause is quickly found, the suspension has play. Then comes the question of repair, because often it means: replace the gearbox or rear axle. That's expensive and takes time. Is there no easier way?
Where does the play come from?
The suspension of the Aebi transporter sits in standard holes. Due to the load during use, these holes become worn over time, and the bolt no longer sits firmly. The play increases with each use.
The solution: the LT-Extenderbolt
The LT-Extenderbolt fills the play directly in the bore. It consists of a bolt with a conical middle section and sleeves. When tightened, the middle section presses the sleeves into the bore, compensating for up to 1 mm of play. This is less a repair than a material update: the suspension remains permanently free of play, and the assembly does not need to be replaced.
The LT-Extenderbolt is an LT in-house development for the Aebi Transporter TP420, VT450 Vario and TP/VT470 Vario.
Three tips from our workshop
- Measure the bore: The LT-Extenderbolt fits bore sizes of Ø 25 to 29 mm. Also check whether the bore is through (through hole variant) or has a blind hole.
- Observe the tightening torque: Tighten the LT-Extenderbolt with the specified tightening torque. You can find the value with the item in the LT shop. If it is missing, ask us.
- Use the assembly instructions: On the Extenderbolt page in the LT shop it is available for download.
Frequently asked questions
How can I safely get the Aebi Transporter through the MFK (Tüv)?
Check the axle suspension for play before the appointment and rectify it in good time. Whether the vehicle passes is decided by the testing station. However, you will be better prepared with play-free suspension points.
How can I make the vehicle suspension play-free?
By filling the play in the standard bores instead of replacing the assembly. That is exactly what the LT-Extenderbolt is made for.
How can the front axle and rear axle be repaired on the Aebi Transporter?
You approach both axles in the same way. The gearbox housing and rear axle remain on the vehicle.
What applies to the front axle suspension and rear axle suspension on the Aebi transporter?
In both cases, play occurs in the standard holes of the suspension. We would be happy to clarify which variant of the LT extender bolt fits with you.
