Fit alternative brake discs to reduce brake noise Brake noise, rattling, screeching or squealing sounds when the brakes are applied are generated due to the coefficient of friction between the brake disc material and the reactive surfaces.
Brake noise does not affect the life or reliability of the vehicle.
If the customer finds the noise of the brakes unacceptable, there are two alternatives that can be installed at the customer's expense.
The 50k brake discs or the high performance carbon brake discs can be installed. Installation of the durable Carbon Weave brake disc (part number 87516774) or the Kevlar brake disc (part number 47131048) will result in silent operation. The optimal characteristics and (especially with the Carbon Weave brake disc) provide an effective drag point during pedal actuation, as the long grooves in the brake disc friction material can distribute the cooling oil from the brake disc more easily during the high contact pressure phase.
The Carbon Weave brake has been standard equipment on UK tractors since 2014 and when rebuilding the brakes, if inexpensive brake material is chosen, the result can be brake noise or squeal. The brake disc (part number 5191497) is an organic material that tends to squeal when applied at low speed or when using the independent brakes.
Check the condition of the hydraulic oil/rear axle oil. If the oil is black, it may be due to contamination from the brake disc friction material. The contamination is due to friction material wearing out over a short period of time or the lamination coming off due to overheating of the brake discs. In such cases, check the type of use and condition of brake systems on all towed implements and trailers. Check towed implements and trailers for brake contribution and efficiency.
