    Oil leak from the drive shaft on the four-wheel drive transfer case.

    Solution
    Contaminated or faulty seal.

    A damaged seal ring (part number 5195944) located inside the oil distributor (part number 47801461) can lead pressurised oil to the front side of the shaft seal (part number 5150370). The front shaft seal cannot withstand the oil pressure and leaks as a result.

    Hydraulic system low pressure oil, at approximately 13.8 bar, is directed from the service control valve to the oil transfer case when the 4WD is disengaged. Therefore, it may be possible to check if the rings are actually leaking by observing the front seal with the 4WD engaged and then again with the 4WD disengaged. If the oil leakage is worse with the 4WD disengaged, the retaining rings are damaged and leaking pressure oil.
