Product information:
Check centre PTO switch for current continuity and adjustment.
Centre mounted PTO switch (part number 86531140) not set properly or has failed.
Information updated February 2006.
Operation of the driver's seat sensing system causes the engine of Class II and Class III series tractors to shut off if the driver leaves the seat without applying the parking brake and if the transmission range lever is still engaged.
If the parking brake is engaged and the transmission range lever is in neutral, such as when performing stationary PTO work, and the engine shuts off when the seat is left, check the following:
Check the centre PTO switch (part number 86531140) for current continuity and adjustment. Check the switch bracket (part number 86543716). There are some reports that the bracket was incorrectly adjusted or bent, preventing the switch from activating when the centre PTO lever is in the OFF position.
Machines without a centre PTO have a switch wire (part number 86531143) in place of the centre PTO switch. Check that the switch wire is in the correct position.
Update February 2006
If the problem arose after the centre PTO switch kit was installed, check the centre PTO switch that is in the kit for correct operation. Make sure that when the switch is pressed, the contacts (low resistance across terminals) are closed. When the switch is not pressed, the contacts should be open (infinite resistance across terminals). If the wrong switch is in the kit, replace it with a normally open switch (part number 86400228).
Note: The present workshop manual was issued for Class II tractors before the driver detection switch logic was introduced into production. The appropriate electrical wiring diagram can be found in the instruction manual that comes with the machine. With reference to the schematic diagram in the operator's manual 'Current flow to driver safety module when driver is not seated'.
1. current flows from fuse 5 through wire HM90, splice H, then to neutral start switch - area in idle switch will be closed. 2. current then flows to driver safety module when driver is not seated.
2. current then flows to centre PTO switch. When in neutral, the switch is closed and allows current flow to the parking brake switch. If the machine does not have a centre PTO, there must be a switch wire connector at this location. 3.
When the parking brake is applied, the parking brake switch is closed and allows current flow through the engine run PTO diode to terminal 'e' of the driver safety system.
