    Product information:

Older Case IH JX Series and New Holland TDD Series production tractors may experience one or more of the following problems.

    Rear brake dragging
Parking brake cable and bracket come loose.
This problem occurs when the brake slave cylinders (part number 87396912) do not return to their original position after a brake application. The problem was corrected in later production series by making changes to the internal brake mechanism.

If brake dragging or problems with the parking brake cable are detected, follow these steps and install a return spring on the brake slave cylinders.

    Parts required

    Quantity Part number Designation
    2 5152163 Bracket
    2 87725815 Pin
    2 87725931 Return spring
1 Work on a level surface and secure the front wheels.
    2. install the bracket (part number 5152163) Using the existing bolt and washer, install the bracket so that the 90° side of the bracket faces the transmission housing.
    3. release the handbrake (fully released position) and release the brake cable tension by loosening the locknuts at the end of the cable.
    4. loosen the lock nuts on the right and left brake slave cylinder rods and then remove the clamps and pins from the cylinder rods of the right and left brake slave cylinders.
    5. adjust the two handbrake arms parallel to each other by extending the corresponding actuator rod.
    6. check for free movement of the cylinder piston rod by pushing the piston rod up into the cylinder until you reach the end of the housing bore.
Note: This will cause a few seconds of uninterrupted pressure as the brake oil behind the piston must be forced back into the lines and into the brake oil cylinder. If you notice any damage, replace the cylinder.
7 Align the fork pin hole with the pin hole in the actuator arm by unscrewing the fork to extend the cylinder rod.
    8. insert a new brake slave cylinder pin (part number 87725815) from the housing side and secure it with the original clamp.
    9. retighten the lock nut of the brake slave cylinder rod.
    10. fit the return spring (part number 87725931) between the new pin and the new bracket.
11 Repeat this procedure on the other side.
    12. readjust the handbrake cable so that it activates the brakes with two to three clicks of the handbrake lever. Ensure that the handbrake cable is free after releasing the handbrake and then apply the handbrake fully to check that the brake engages fully after seven to eight clicks. Before driving the vehicle with the brake pedals connected, depress the pedals once or twice to ensure that they feel firm.
13 Check the brake release as follows.
With the foot brake pedals connected, drive the tractor up a slope or ramp and apply the brakes to stop the tractor at the top of the slope.
Then release the handbrake, put the transmission in neutral and then release the foot brakes. The tractor should immediately start to roll down the slope and accelerate towards the bottom.
