In case of oil leakage at the reservoir cap, it is recommended to flatten the top of the reservoir filler neck with a suitable flat file.
If overheating of the steering oil is reported or detected, the following checks and tests must be carried out. 1:
1. determine whether the correct Ambra Multi G oil (as used in the gearbox) is being used.
2. inspect all steering system piping and hoses for signs of damage, kinks or constrictions that could cause heat in the system. 3.
3. clean the steering filter in the plastic container. Replace the filter,4997992 if it cannot be cleaned. 4.
4. carry out a pressure test of the system according to the instructions in the repair manual (100 bar for two-wheel drive models and 120 bar for four-wheel drive models).
5. the steering control valve must automatically assume a neutral position when the steering wheel is released. This may be prevented by constrictions on the steering column or incorrect alignment of the steering column. If necessary, loosen the steering control valve and lubricate the shaft splines that engage the control valve with a suitable lubricant. It is very unlikely that the steering control valve is the cause of overheating.
If the above criterion is met and the steering system is functioning normally, it is recommended that the new improved steering oil reservoir 84264948 be fitted. This will withstand oil operating temperatures of 120° C ; this is significantly higher than any normal operating temperatures encountered in the steering system.
In high ambient temperatures or in applications with constant high engine speed, the new steering pump 5179724 with lower flow may have to be fitted.
The new pump is shorter and delivers 8.3 ml per revolution instead of the 11 ml of the original pump Operating pressure and steering function have not been changed.
To fit the smaller pump, a new steering pump oil inlet tube 5195390, a new
O-ring 14457281 and new mounting hardware.
Note: On tractors where there is a rigid pipe between the pump and the reservoir, you must remove the rigid pipe. Install the new inlet pipe, O-ring and mounting hardware and connect the inlet pipe and reservoir to the hose, part number 5092989, as shown in Figures 1 and 3.
Alternatively, cut the hose, part number 82849327, to the appropriate length.
