CONCERNS: FAILURE OF THE ALL-WHEEL DRIVE CLUTCH
Failure of the drive flanges on the output gear and the clutch sleeve for engaging the four-wheel clutch on four-wheel drive models may be caused by one of the following reasons.
1. under heavier loads, the clutch sleeve may be forced out of the fully engaged position and the contact area during engagement is reduced. This will cause damage to the output gear and the drive flanges of the coupling sleeves.
2. when applying the brakes in an emergency during high speed road travel, the sliding sleeves may not fully engage due to the high speed and the time required for the clutch to fully engage.
This reduces the contact area during engagement and causes damage to the output gear and the drive flanges of the coupling sleeve.
In order to increase durability and reliability, the clutch engagement spring and the opening in the oil transfer ring have been changed.
The new clutch engagement spring (5171681) and oil transfer ring (87685158) were introduced into production from the following serial numbers.
Series TNA , TNDA, TNSA: HJE098009
TNNA, TNVA series: HJB098102
Series TNFA: HJU097994
The new spring (5171681) is stronger and exerts greater pressure when engaging. The engagement of the clutch is also improved.
The opening in the oil transfer ring (87685158) has been enlarged to 8 mm (previously 6 mm). This restricted the oil flow from the piston.
If the output gear (84284808/84284804) and clutch sleeve (5182436) for engaging the clutch fail on 4WD models, it is recommended to install the latest engagement spring and oil transfer ring and replace the output gear and clutch sleeve.
