    Product information:

4WD or diff lock solenoid valve with reinforced winding, 2 cables with white plug.
ATTENTION: Newer models have valve with 1 cable = 5192014
All wheel cannot be switched off, possible sources of error: Switch defective 47128548 Connector defective
    Solenoid valve defective 5164628

Attention: To check if the solenoid valve is supplied with voltage, the plug must not be pulled out, otherwise the processor will recognize this and will not release any voltage to the solenoid valve. Connector housing red on solenoid valve 12326885

    Round plug 2x 5165459
Connector housing on main cable harness 12326980

Troubleshooting on electrohydraulic MFD / FWD system Front-wheel drive / all-wheel drive cannot be deactivated.
Failure to disengage from all-wheel drive may be caused by one, or a combination, of the following:
    Transmission oil level insufficient.

    Oil filter clogged.
    Hydraulic pump defective.

    Four-wheel drive engagement/disengagement switch faulty.

No power to solenoid valve (connections loose or damaged, poor contact).

Four-wheel drive engagement solenoid valve blocked in closed position.

Oil leak through seals, causing pressure drop: Hub, piston or supply port seals, or drive wheel shaft seal rings.

To troubleshoot the four-wheel drive system, follow these steps:
    1. check electrical operation from the four-wheel drive solenoid (part number 5164628).
Refer to the Workshop Manual Section 55, Chapter 1 - Four Wheel Drive Electrical Wiring Diagram. This wiring diagram shows the four wheel drive system when the engine is running and four wheel drive is off and no brake pedal is depressed. 12-volts from fuse #17 is received at the four-wheel drive control toggle switch 95. When the switch is in the off position, 12-volts flow through the toggle switch to relay number VII, 12-volts flow through the relay from pin 87a, (because relay VII is NOT energized) and down to the four-wheel drive solenoid wire. This 12-volt power disengages the four-wheel drive.

Confirm the presence of 12-volts at the four-wheel drive solenoid and that the solenoid is energized. Replace solenoid if faulty, or trace wiring for short circuit or circuit break if 12-volt is not detected at solenoid.

Make sure brake pressure switches are normally open (no current passing). If any of the brake pedals are depressed, the switches will close and prevent 12-volts from reaching the four-wheel drive solenoid.

Check the hydraulic operation of the four-wheel drive system.
To disengage the four-wheel drive system, energize the four-wheel drive solenoid with 12-volts. The energized solenoid sends hydraulic oil at low system pressure 14.4 to 15.8 bar (210 to 230 psi) into the four-wheel drive piston. The four-wheel drive piston pushes against a spring to force the drive collar apart (disengage).

NOTE: The four-wheel drive indicator light will illuminate when the four-wheel drive is engaged and there is no pressure on the four-wheel drive piston.

Install a pressure gauge on the four-wheel drive solenoid test port on the maintenance control valve. With the solenoid energized, the gauge will read 210 to 230 psi (14.4 to 15.8 bar). Lower pressure readings will not disengage the four-wheel drive clutch. If lower pressure is present:

Refer to the shop manual and follow the low pressure system checks.

Check for a clogged four-wheel drive solenoid.

Check for leak in four-wheel drive piston seals. Seal. Correct them if necessary.
