Steering does not work:
When starting the tractor at low outside temperatures and with cold hydraulic oil, the steering response is limited or completely inoperative until the oil is warmed up.
The following causes may affect the steering function.
Restricted oil flow with the current oil filter at low outside temperatures and cold oil.
Prematurely blocked oil filter due to oil contaminated with water or dirt.
The inner bypass valve from the oil filter is stuck open with cold oil.
The previous type of oil filter blocks prematurely and cannot provide the full required flow at low oil temperature.
A new hydraulic oil filter with an improved flow rate has been introduced.
If the above symptoms are reported or found in the field, it is recommended to follow the instructions below:
If the steering system is inoperative after starting, especially when the outside temperature is below 0 degrees Celsius, the oil filter must be replaced with the latest filter.
If the symptom persists after the oil filter has been replaced with the latest oil filter, the transmission oil is contaminated. If it is determined that the oil and oil filter are contaminated, follow the instructions below:
Heat the transmission oil to 80 to 85 degrees Celsius.
For machines equipped with the Powershuttle transmission, the required oil temperature can be checked in the ADIC (same method as following the transmission clutch calibration procedure).
NOTE: To accelerate the oil heating procedure, restrict the air flow to the front of the oil coolant heat exchanger and start the engine - or connect a suitable hydraulic pressure hose between the pressure and return lines of the same auxiliary control unit and drive the tractor on the road with the control lever in the locked position.
When the required oil temperature is reached, stop the engine and replace the hydraulic oil filter with the filter with the previous part number. (Warning: the oil is very hot).
Allow the transmission oil to cool to ambient temperature.
Repeat the same oil heating cycle and replace the hydraulic oil filter with the latest oil filter (part number 84257511).
On machines equipped with the Powershuttle transmission, replace the transmission oil filter at the same time.
Check the steering behaviour the next morning after starting with cold oil.
